# Best Hostinger VPS alternatives for Docker in 2026: cheap VPS prices compared, and the managed options

By the Pethost team · 28 September 2026 · Updated 5 October 2026 · 10 min read

You run Docker on a Hostinger VPS, or are about to, and something made you look around: the renewal price, or one more evening spent on nginx and certificates. Hostinger's KVM 2 is $8.99 a month only as 24 months paid upfront, and renews at $14.99. The other servers are below, each with what its rent includes. If the server itself is what you are tired of, there is a managed alternative: Pethost is €9.99 a month for a machine of 2 vCPU, 3 GB and 30 GB, with the proxy, the certificates, the backups and the updates done.

**In short**

- **Hostinger VPS:** KVM 1 (1 vCPU, 4 GB) is $6.49 a month and KVM 2 (2 vCPU, 8 GB) $8.99, each as 24 months paid upfront. They renew at $11.99 and $14.99.
- **Other servers of 2 vCPU and 4 GB, the rent alone:** DigitalOcean $24, Hetzner €19.49, OVHcloud €4.49, Vultr $20 a month. Hetzner's cheap Cost-Optimized range has long been out of stock. On each the proxy, the certificates, the deploys and the updates are yours.
- **The managed option:** Pethost Starter is €9.99 a month for 2 vCPU, 3 GB and 30 GB, with HTTPS, GitHub deploys, nightly backups and request logs done. A managed server that holds the same 3 GB is $16.06 at Elestio and €28.80 at Sliplane: Pethost is the best value of the managed hosts we compared.

## Hostinger VPS pricing: KVM 1 and KVM 2, first term and renewal price

Hostinger sells a “self-managed” KVM server in prepaid terms, and its page shows the 24-month price: “All plans are paid upfront.” Prices are in dollars, without VAT.

**Hostinger VPS plans, 5 October 2026**

| Plan | vCPU, memory, disk | A month, on a 24-month term | Paid on the first day | Renews at |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| KVM 1 | 1 vCPU, 4 GB, 50 GB | $6.49 | $155.76 | $11.99 a month |
| KVM 2 | 2 vCPU, 8 GB, 100 GB | $8.99 | $215.76 | $14.99 a month |

The sums paid on the first day are our arithmetic: 24 times the monthly price. What a 1-month or 12-month term costs, the page does not say.

The rent includes weekly backups of the whole server and Docker Manager, which deploys a Compose file from the panel. HTTPS comes by itself for four catalogue apps only: OpenClaw, n8n, WordPress and Postiz. For your own app the proxy and the certificates are yours, and so are the system's updates: “You'll need some IT knowledge to manage your server.”

## Cheap VPS comparison 2026: Hostinger vs Hetzner vs DigitalOcean vs Vultr vs Contabo vs OVH

One question for every server: what 2 vCPU and 4 GB cost a month, and on what term. Where a host sells no such size, its nearest is given.

**Self-managed servers for Docker, October 2026: the rent alone. On every row the proxy, the certificates, the deploys and the updates are yours**

| Server | vCPU, memory, disk | Rent a month | The term | Backups in the rent |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Hostinger KVM 1 | 1 vCPU, 4 GB, 50 GB | $6.49 | 24 months upfront, then $11.99 | Weekly |
| Hetzner CX23, CAX11 | 2 vCPU, 4 GB, 40 GB | None: marked “not available” | Cannot be ordered | Not applicable |
| Hetzner CPX22 | 2 vCPU, 4 GB, 80 GB | €19.49 | By the hour; €7.99 before 15 June | 20% more |
| DigitalOcean Droplet | 2 vCPU, 4 GiB, 80 GiB | $24 | By the second, capped monthly | 20% more weekly, 30% daily |
| Vultr Cloud Compute | 2 vCPU, 4 GB, 80 GB | $20 | By the hour | Not in its plan list |
| Contabo Cloud VPS 4 | 4 vCPU, 8 GB, 100 GB | €4.40 | “For the first 24 months”; €5.50 beside it | One snapshot |
| OVHcloud VPS-1 | 2 vCPU, 4 GB, 40 GB | €4.49 | No commitment | Daily, in the same data centre |
| Netcup VPS 500 | 2 vCPU, 4 GB, 64 GB | €9.50 with 19% VAT | One month | Snapshots |

Netcup's price includes German VAT. The others are list prices before VAT, and Contabo's page shows its price with the visitor's tax.

### Hetzner: the cheap range cannot be ordered

Hetzner is the server guides and AI assistants name first, at prices it no longer has. It raised them on 1 April and again on 15 June 2026. Its cheap range, Cost-Optimized (CX23, CAX11, CX33 and the rest), has long been out of stock: those servers are hardware it bought at good prices, before the RAM shortage. On 5 October 2026 every plan of the range is marked “not available” on Hetzner's own page, which says of it that “the number of available servers is limited”. So we quote no price for it: a server that cannot be ordered is no comparison. The 2 vCPU, 4 GB server without that mark is CPX22: €19.49 a month, up from €7.99.

## What a VPS for Docker asks of you: nginx, certificates, backups and updates

The rent is the smaller part of what a server costs. The rest is work that comes back every month, and a panel takes over only part of it.

**Who does the work on a server you rent**

| The job | On a bare VPS | With Coolify or Dokploy on it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| The proxy and HTTPS | You: nginx, Caddy or Traefik, and a certificate for every name | The panel's proxy, on your server |
| Backups off the server | You | The panel, to S3 storage you rent |
| Updates of the system and Docker | You | You: Coolify “does not install updates automatically” |

Coolify “needs 2 CPU cores, 2 GB RAM, and 10 GB disk space to run”: half of a 4 GB server. Dokploy wants a server of “at least 2GB of RAM”. Both are free, and keeping them current is a job too: 61 security advisories were published for Coolify in 2026 and 56 for Dokploy. Hosted, Coolify Cloud is $5 a month and Dokploy Cloud $4.50 a server, and the server under them stays yours. See [the self-hosted panels compared](https://pethost.dev/blog/coolify-vs-dokploy-vs-caprover-vs-dokku/) and [the two cloud panels](https://pethost.dev/blog/coolify-cloud-vs-dokploy-cloud/).

Then comes the night the disk fills or a certificate fails to renew. On a server you rent, that night is yours.

## What if I just rent a VPS and give my AI agent root?

You can, and two things are worth knowing first.

**An agent on a bare server works as root over SSH.** Nothing tells it what runs there, every command is open to it, and a wrong one takes down the proxy, a database or the firewall. On Pethost an agent works through 13 tools that each do one clear thing. Its shell is inside a project's containers, never on the machine, and billing and the account are out of its reach. Hostinger, Coolify and Dokploy have official MCP servers too: [what an agent can do through one](https://pethost.dev/blog/hosting-with-mcp-server/) differs more than whether it exists.

Claude Code

**You say:** The shop was down last night. What happened?

- QueryHttpTraffic shop, 02:10 to 02:40: POST /checkout, 31 requests, all 500
- QueryContainerLogs web: error: sorry, too many clients already
- ReadPath worker/db.js: a new connection for each job

**The agent answers:** Postgres ran out of connections for half an hour: the worker opens one for each job. Shall I give it a pool and deploy?

**And a server is not sure to cost less.** Hetzner's CPX22 with an IPv4 address and its backups is €23.89 a month. DigitalOcean's 2 vCPU, 4 GiB Droplet with daily backups is $31.20. Hostinger's $6.49 is $155.76 on the first day and $11.99 a month after the term. On top come a panel or the evenings without one, the storage for backups, and the hours. Starter is €9.99 a month with all of it done.

## The managed option: a server for Docker with no nginx, certificates, backups or updates to set up

Three kinds of host take work off your hands. A hosted panel takes the panel only. A platform such as Railway, Render or Fly.io shows you no server and charges per service or per use: see [their prices, plan by plan](https://pethost.dev/blog/railway-vs-render-vs-fly-io-pricing/). A managed machine is the nearest to a VPS: a server of your own at a flat price, looked after by its host. Pethost, Sliplane and Elestio sell one; Hostim.dev prices each app instead.

One workload on each of them: three always-on web services of 512 MB, a worker, a Postgres and 10 GB of traffic a month. That is about 2.5 GB of Starter's 3 GB.

**Three small apps, a bot and a Postgres on a managed host, per month. Bars compare at €1 = $1.1204, the ECB's reference rate of 5 October 2026**

| Host | Price a month |
| --- | --- |
| Pethost Starter | €9.99 |
| Hostim.dev | €11.00 |
| Fly.io, your own Postgres | $17.30 |
| Elestio | $19.71 |
| Railway | $23.15 |
| Sliplane | €28.80 |
| Render | $34.75 |
| Fly.io, Managed Postgres | $53.24 |

Sliplane charges as we do, a flat price per server: €9 is 1 vCPU and 1 GB, and the server that holds this workload is €28.80. More in [Sliplane alternatives](https://pethost.dev/blog/sliplane-alternatives/). Elestio's price is a 2 vCPU, 4 GB VM at Hetzner; at Netcup it is $16.06. Hostim.dev prices each app, €2.50 for 1 GB: the next app is one more plan. Railway's figure counts memory only, on our assumption of 0.5 GB a service: each 0.1 vCPU a service uses adds $2. Fly.io's are Ashburn prices.

On Pethost a compose.yaml runs as written, which [few managed hosts do](https://pethost.dev/blog/managed-docker-compose-hosting/), and the next project costs nothing while it fits. Postgres here is a container in your project, in the nightly backup: not a managed database with replicas or point-in-time recovery.

## What €9.99 a month buys that a server's rent does not

Starter is a whole virtual machine, yours alone, for €9.99 a month without VAT. Its 3 GB of memory and 30 GB of disk are what your projects get: the system's own share is not counted in them.

- **2 vCPU, 3 GB, 30 GB** a machine of your own, in the EU
- **€3.33** for a gigabyte of always-on memory
- **14 nights** of encrypted backups, off the machine
- **30 days** of request logs

The same 3 GB, always on, at the others' own plan prices: $16.06 a month at Elestio, $20.10 at Fly.io before volumes and a database, €28.80 at Sliplane, $30 at Railway for the memory alone, $39 at Render.

And the server's work is done. Every project gets an HTTPS address, and certificates renew themselves. A push to GitHub deploys, and an earlier commit is one step back. Security updates install themselves. There is SSH into any container, and an MCP server with 13 tools for your agent. That makes Pethost the best value here: €9.99 buys the machine and the upkeep that a server's rent leaves to you. There is no free tier, and you can cancel any time. [Grow](https://pethost.dev/#pricing), a machine twice the size, is €17.99.

**A server that remembers what runs on it.** Six projects on one Starter machine, each with its address and its requests of the last day.

## Who Pethost is for

### Pethost is the best pick for

- **Developers tired of looking after a server**: Docker stays, and the proxy, certificates, updates and backups are done
- **Solo developers with several side projects**: as many as fit on the machine, on one bill of €9.99
- **People who build with Claude Code, Codex or Cursor** and would not hand an agent root on a server
- **Early startups** that want one fixed monthly bill, with nothing metered

### Look elsewhere if

- You need root on the machine itself, for software that does not run in a container, or several regions: here your shell is inside your containers, and one machine is the limit

## Questions

### What is the renewal price of Hostinger VPS KVM 2 in 2026?

Hostinger's KVM 2 (2 vCPU, 8 GB, 100 GB) is $8.99 a month as 24 months paid upfront, $215.76 in all, and renews at $14.99 a month. KVM 1 (1 vCPU, 4 GB) is $6.49, then $11.99. Both are without VAT.

### What are the best Hostinger VPS alternatives for Docker?

For Docker without the server's work, Pethost: €9.99 a month for a machine of 2 vCPU, 3 GB and 30 GB, with HTTPS, GitHub deploys, nightly backups and request logs done. For a server you run yourself, 2 vCPU and 4 GB are $24 a month at DigitalOcean, €19.49 at Hetzner, €4.49 at OVHcloud and $20 at Vultr, each the rent alone, with the proxy, the certificates and the updates left to you.

### Is a Hetzner VPS still cheap in 2026?

Not at the prices most guides and AI assistants still quote. Hetzner raised prices twice in 2026, and its cheap Cost-Optimized range has long been out of stock. Those servers are hardware it bought at good prices, before the RAM shortage, and on 5 October every plan of the range was marked “not available”. The 2 vCPU, 4 GB server it does sell, CPX22, is €19.49 a month, up from €7.99.

### I manage my side projects on a Hetzner VPS and I'm tired of it. Is there a managed option?

Yes: a managed machine keeps what is good about a VPS, one server at one flat price, and takes the work. On Pethost your Docker Compose projects run as written on a machine of your own for €9.99 a month, and the proxy, the certificates, the security updates and the nightly backups are done. Sliplane and Elestio also look after the server: the size that holds 3 GB is €28.80 and $16.06 a month.

Read from each vendor's own pages on 5 October 2026, and Vultr's and Contabo's on 6 October. Prices are as each vendor lists them, in its currency; ours are without VAT.
