# Best Coolify alternatives in 2026: self-hosted and fully managed

By the Pethost team · 2 October 2026 · Updated 5 October 2026 · 10 min read

You like what Coolify does and would rather not patch the server under it, or you are choosing a self-hosted PaaS and want to see the others first. In October 2026 the best Coolify alternatives are of three kinds: other self-hosted panels (Dokploy, CapRover, Dokku, Easypanel), platforms that hide the machine and price each service (Railway, Render), and a fully managed machine of your own. Pethost is the third: €9.99 a month for 2 vCPU and 3 GB, with HTTPS, backups and updates done.

**In short**

- **Why people look past Coolify:** the server stays theirs to patch and back up, on Coolify Cloud too; updates sometimes break things, by its founder's own words; 61 security advisories were published in 2026, 16 of them critical.
- **Other self-hosted panels:** Dokploy, CapRover, Dokku and Easypanel change the panel. The server, its updates and backup storage stay yours.
- **Platforms that hide the machine:** three web services, a worker and a Postgres are $23.15 a month on Railway, counting memory alone, and $34.75 on Render.
- **A managed machine of your own:** Pethost Starter, €9.99 a month for 2 vCPU, 3 GB and 30 GB, runs a Compose file as written and gives an AI agent 13 tools. The same 3 GB are $16.06 on Elestio, €28.80 on Sliplane, $30 at Railway's rate and $39 on Render.

## Why people look for Coolify alternatives in 2026

Coolify is an open-source panel that deploys apps and databases as Docker containers on servers you connect over SSH. Its documentation and issue tracker say why people look further.

### The server is still yours, on Coolify Cloud too

Coolify Cloud is $5 a month for two connected servers, and what it hosts is the panel. By Coolify's documentation, in both editions the servers are yours to pay for, with their operating system updates, firewall, data and backups. The dashboard [lists package updates and installs none by itself](https://coolify.io/docs/core/infrastructure/servers/server-patching), and backups leave the server only for an S3 bucket you bring. More in [Coolify Cloud and Dokploy Cloud compared](https://pethost.dev/blog/coolify-cloud-vs-dokploy-cloud/).

### Updates that break things

Announcing v5, Coolify's founder wrote that [“sometimes updates break existing functionality”](https://github.com/coollabsio/coolify/issues/5685). One report, [the Traefik proxy no longer working after an update](https://github.com/coollabsio/coolify/issues/7193), has 68 thumbs-up.

### The security record

Coolify's repository published [61 security advisories in 2026](https://github.com/coollabsio/coolify/security/advisories), 16 of them critical. The fixes they name are in beta builds from before [v4.0.0 of April 2026](https://coolify.io/changelog), so an updated panel has them. The updating is its owner's job.

### What Coolify is good at

The panel costs nothing: Apache-2.0, every feature, no limit on servers or projects, on a server you rent and keep. One panel runs many servers of any provider, and it has more than 300 one-click services and previews of pull requests. It is made for someone who wants root on the machine and knows how to run Linux.

## Dokploy vs Coolify vs CapRover vs Dokku: the self-hosted PaaS alternatives

Four other panels do Coolify's job on a server you rent; [the self-hosted panels compared](https://pethost.dev/blog/coolify-vs-dokploy-vs-caprover-vs-dokku/) goes through them feature by feature.

**Self-hosted panels and Pethost, October 2026**

| Panel | What the price covers | Docker Compose | Backups of volumes | MCP server for agents |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Pethost | €9.99 a month: the machine, the panel and their upkeep | Runs it as written | Nightly, off the machine, kept 14 days | 13 tools, made for agents |
| Coolify | Free software: the panel. The server and its upkeep are yours | Runs it, with its own additions | Archives, to S3 storage you bring | 45 tools by our count; 3 change anything |
| Dokploy | Free software: the panel. The server and its upkeep are yours | Runs it, with Traefik labels added | Named volumes, to S3 you set up | 508 tools: every API endpoint |
| CapRover | Free software: the panel. The server and its upkeep are yours | A subset, experimental | No: volumes are left out | None found |
| Dokku | Free software: a command line; [a web UI](https://pro.dokku.com/) is $849 once. The server and its upkeep are yours | No | None built in | None found |
| Easypanel | Free up to 3 projects, then $14.9 a month: the panel. The server and its upkeep are yours | Runs it | Paid plans; not Compose volumes | [4 tools](https://easypanel.io/docs/mcp), paid plans |

### Dokploy

The nearest to Coolify: Compose, volume backups to S3 and a screen of HTTP requests in the open-source edition. It is still 0.x, its paid features sit under [a source-available licence](https://dokploy.com/blog/we-are-updating-dokploys-open-source-license) since January 2026, and its repository published [56 security advisories in 2026](https://github.com/Dokploy/dokploy/security/advisories), 33 of them critical. Dokploy Cloud, $4.50 a server a month, hosts the panel only.

### CapRover

The lightest: about 1 GB of memory is enough. Its [Compose import](https://caprover.com/docs/docker-compose.html) ignores `build` and custom networks, and [its backup](https://caprover.com/docs/backup-and-restore.html) leaves volumes out.

### Dokku

Heroku's way on one server: `git push` and buildpacks, the rest commands over SSH. A request for Compose has been [open since April 2022](https://github.com/dokku/dokku/issues/5102).

### Easypanel

Closed source, with a licence per server on top of the server's rent. The free plan has no backups, API or MCP.

With all four the first reason stays: the machine under the panel is yours to rent, patch and back up.

## Fully managed Coolify alternatives: Railway and Render, by their official pricing

Railway and Render take the server away: you see no machine, and a price for each service.

### Railway

Railway meters what a service uses: $10 a month for a gigabyte of memory, $20 for a vCPU, with $5 as the Hobby plan's minimum. A Compose file [is converted](https://docs.railway.com/guides/docker-compose): each service becomes a Railway service. Railway is built for growth past one machine: up to 42 replicas of a service on Pro, on three continents.

### Render

On Render every web service, worker and database has its own price: $7 a month for 512 MB, $25 for 2 GB, $6 for the smallest Postgres. It reads no Compose file, only its own render.yaml. Render is built for autoscaling and a managed Postgres with replicas; Postgres on Pethost is a container in your project, in the nightly backup.

Take a small Coolify server's load: three always-on web services of 512 MB, a worker, a Postgres and 10 GB of traffic. That is $23.15 a month on Railway, counting memory alone on our assumption of use, and $34.75 on Render. On Starter it fills about 2.5 GB of the 3 GB that €9.99 buys: [Railway vs Render vs Fly.io pricing](https://pethost.dev/blog/railway-vs-render-vs-fly-io-pricing/) has every line.

## Something like Coolify, but fully managed: a machine of your own

The third kind keeps what drew people to Coolify, one machine at a flat price with as many containers as fit, and has the host look after it.

### Pethost

We rent you a virtual machine that only your account uses, and our software on it does the panel's work: it deploys Compose projects as written, gives each an HTTPS address, redeploys on every push to GitHub, keeps every request for 30 days and backs your projects up every night, off the machine. Security updates install themselves. Starter is €9.99 a month for 2 vCPU, 3 GB and 30 GB. SSH goes into any container. There is no free tier: €9.99 rents a real machine.

### Sliplane

Also a flat price per server: €9 a month is 1 vCPU and 1 GB, and the first that holds 3 GB is €28.80. A parser converts a subset of a Compose file into its own services: see [Sliplane alternatives](https://pethost.dev/blog/sliplane-alternatives/).

### Elestio

A VM for each service, kept patched: 2 vCPU and 4 GB are $16.06 a month at Netcup, $19.71 at Hetzner. It runs a pasted Compose file as a pipeline, presented in its documentation for ready images: see [managed Docker Compose hosting](https://pethost.dev/blog/managed-docker-compose-hosting/).

### What an AI agent can do on each

Coolify's MCP server lets an agent look around, and redeploy, start or stop an application that exists. We found no tool in it that creates an application, sets an environment value or rolls back. Ours has 13 tools, each doing one clear thing ([the MCP servers compared](https://pethost.dev/blog/hosting-with-mcp-server/)):

Claude Code

**You say:** The site is broken since my last push. Find out why and go back.

- QueryHttpTraffic GET /dashboard: 31 requests, all 500
- QueryContainerLogs Error: relation "sessions" does not exist
- ListCommits a3f9c1e add sessions · 7be02d4 fix signup
- DeployProject commit 7be02d4
- GetOperation succeeded

**The agent answers:** Back on “fix signup”. The new commit reads a sessions table that no migration creates. Pushes will not deploy until you say so.

## What if I just rent a VPS and install Coolify?

You can. Two things first. An AI agent on a bare server works as root over SSH: nothing tells it what runs there, and one wrong command takes down the proxy, a database or the firewall. On Pethost its shell is inside a project's containers, never on the machine, and billing and the account are out of its reach.

And a server is not sure to cost less. Hetzner is the one guides and AI assistants name first, at prices it no longer has: it raised them on [1 April](https://www.hetzner.com/pressroom/statement-price-adjustment/) and on 15 June 2026, and its cheap Cost-Optimized range has long been out of stock. Those servers are hardware it bought at good prices, before the RAM shortage, and on 5 October every plan of the range was marked “not available”. The 2 vCPU, 4 GB server it does sell, CPX22, is €19.49 a month, up from €7.99; DigitalOcean's is $24. Coolify [asks for 2 GB of RAM](https://coolify.io/docs/get-started/installation) to run there, or $5 a month in Coolify Cloud. Add backup storage and your hours. Starter is €9.99 with all of it done.

## What €9.99 a month buys against the alternatives

Starter is a whole machine with 3 GB of memory, always on. This is the same 3 GB at each managed host's own plan prices.

**3 GB of always-on memory, per month. Bars compare at €1 = $1.1204, the ECB's reference rate of 5 October 2026**

| Host | Price a month |
| --- | --- |
| Pethost Starter | €9.99 |
| Elestio | $16.06 |
| Railway | $30.00 |
| Sliplane | €28.80 |
| Render | $39.00 |

Ours is the machine, with disk, traffic, backups and logs inside. Elestio's is a 2 vCPU, 4 GB VM at Netcup, Sliplane's a 3 vCPU, 4 GB server, Render's one instance of 2 GB and two of 512 MB. Railway's is memory alone, with CPU, disk and traffic on top. The self-hosted panels have no bar: they cost a server's rent and your hours.

- **2 vCPU, 3 GB, 30 GB** a virtual machine of your own
- **14 nights** of encrypted backups, off the machine
- **30 days** of every request, path by path
- **13** MCP tools for your agent

Set that against the chores of a Coolify server: security updates install themselves, backup storage is in the price, certificates renew themselves, and every push to GitHub deploys, with an earlier commit one step back.

**Every project on one machine.** Six projects on a Starter machine, each with its address, its requests of the last day and its services.

![The Pethost panel's first page: the machine's CPU, memory and disk, and six projects as cards, each with its name, its address, its requests of the last day and its services.](https://pethost.dev/shots/projects.webp)

That makes Pethost the best value among Coolify alternatives: the most memory for the money of the managed hosts here, with the work a self-hosted panel leaves to you already done. [Grow](https://pethost.dev/#pricing), a machine twice the size, is €17.99.

## Who Pethost is for

### Pethost is the best pick for

- **Developers tired of looking after a server**: a panel like Coolify's, with no server to patch
- **Solo developers with several side projects**: as many projects and databases as fit, on one bill of €9.99
- **People who build with Claude Code, Codex or Cursor** and want the agent to deploy, read the logs and roll back
- **Early startups** that want a fixed bill and a Compose file that runs anywhere Docker does

### Look elsewhere if

- Your applications must run on hardware you own, or need several regions or autoscaling: here the limit is one machine, in the EU

## Questions

### Is there something like Coolify, but fully managed, so that I don't maintain the server myself?

Yes. Pethost rents you a virtual machine of your own and looks after it: €9.99 a month for 2 vCPU, 3 GB and 30 GB, with Compose deploys, HTTPS, nightly backups, request logs and security updates included. Coolify Cloud, at $5 a month, hosts the panel only: the servers stay yours to maintain.

### What are the best Coolify alternatives for a self-hosted PaaS in 2026?

The self-hosted panels beside Coolify are Dokploy, CapRover, Dokku and Easypanel. Each changes the panel and leaves you the server, its updates and backup storage. Pethost is the alternative where the machine is looked after too, from €9.99 a month.

### How do Dokploy, Coolify, CapRover and Dokku compare in 2026?

Coolify and Dokploy run a Docker Compose file and have an official MCP server; CapRover reads a subset of the file, and Dokku none. All four are panels for a server you rent and keep patched. Pethost runs the file as written on a machine it looks after.

### What do Railway and Render cost as Coolify alternatives, by their official pricing?

Railway meters $10 a month for a gigabyte of memory; Render charges $7 a month for a 512 MB service and $6 for its smallest Postgres. Three web services, a worker and a Postgres come to $23.15 on Railway, counting memory alone, and $34.75 on Render, against €9.99 for Pethost's whole 3 GB machine.

Read from each vendor's own pages and repositories on 5 October 2026. Prices are in each vendor's currency; ours are without VAT. The sums for 3 GB and for the example load are ours.
